Resigning or Getting Terminated in Qatar – What to Do
A notice period is usually given by the party who is terminating the service contract. In most cases, it is your employer who gives this period. The notice period depends on how long have you stayed in your current company. Below is the information about the notice period in Qatar.
- If you are receiving a salary monthly and you have stayed for less than 5 years, your notice period is 1 month.
- If you are receiving a salary monthly and you have stayed for more than 5 years, your notice period is 2 months.
- If you are receiving your salary weekly, daily, or hourly and you have been employed for less than a year, your notice period is 1 week.
- If you are receiving your salary weekly, daily, or hourly and you have been employed for more than a year but less than 5 years, your notice period is 2 weeks.
- If you are receiving your salary weekly, daily, or hourly and you have been employed for more than 5 years, your notice period is 1 month.
No Objection Certificate
If you want to look for another employer and your contract with your current employer has not ended yet, you need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your current employer. Without this, you will not be able to look for a new job until your contract expires.
During your notice period, you are entitled to a salary equivalent to the length of your service period. For instance, if you need to render a 1-month notice, you should be receiving your 1-month compensation as well.
If your current employer terminates you, he should pay for the repatriation costs which is in two weeks period after the termination of the contract. In case you’re planning to look for another employer, your current employer is exempt from this.
