  • The Ministry of Environmental and Climate Affairs has disclosed that plastic bags will be banned soon in all supermarkets across the country.
  • The policy is still pending final approval as of July 2018.
  • The Ministry of Commerce and Industry will have to approve the standards and specifications.
  • The Ministry of Environmental and Climate Affairs did a poll on Twitter to gather the votes of consumers and 89% of them were in favor of the said policy.
  • The poll was conducted with an option to replace plastic bags with reusable and decomposable bags.
  • The regulation to ban plastic bags will be for a better impact on the environment and wellness of human beings.
  • Plastic bags are a threat to the marine environment, especially dolphins, turtle, and other kinds of sea creatures.
  • The ministry disclosed the use of paper bags but there were no further details about it.
